This historical note originates from Kinoya Village in Toki District, Tajima Province, which is now part of Shin'onsen Town in Mikata District, Hyogo Prefecture. It is a village-issued note (町村札), specifically a Jufune note (寿船札), valued at two kan mon (銭2貫文), a form of currency used during the Edo period. The note was part of the Toyooka Domain and was one of the 29 villages under its jurisdiction.

This rare piece of currency represents a specific regional monetary practice and provides insight into the economic systems within the Toyooka Domain and the small villages that were part of it. The note is a well-preserved example of Japan’s local financial history during the Edo period.
