This charming Ebisu doll, crafted by the renowned Kōgetsu, is part of the Japanese "Engi Ningyo" tradition, created to celebrate the Ebisu festival, which honors the god of prosperity and good fortune. The doll stands 13 cm tall and weighs 58 grams, and it comes in both a wooden box and a paper box. The wooden box is stamped with the maker's signature, "Kōgetsu," and also bears the certificate for "Wood-Inserted Doll" (Kimekomi Ningyo), signifying its authenticity. The inner lid of the box features a seal reading "Special Selection, Yokohama Engi Ningyo Collection."
The Ebisu festival is celebrated twice a year, with traditional offerings made in honor of the deity. The doll was designed to be placed during these festive occasions, symbolizing prosperity, good fortune, and family safety.
