Edo-Period Ceiling Painting Sketch – Jurōjin (Early 19th Century)
This is an original hand-drawn ink sketch (nikuhitsu) on tsunagi hanshi paper, serving as a preparatory drawing for a ceiling painting (tenjō-e) from the late Edo period. The artwork features Jurōjin, one of the Seven Lucky Gods, and includes an inscription and seal on the reverse reading "Jurōjin, Ten 26." While the artist remains unknown, the detailed brushwork reflects the craftsmanship of the era.
The piece measures approximately 48 × 40.5 cm. It has visible creases, folds, and minor tears due to age. An intriguing artifact of Edo-period religious and decorative art.
