This unique note originates from Kishida Village in Harima Province and is a deposit note (銭壱匁預) valued at one monme (銀壱匁). It was used for securing deposits, a common practice for transactions during the late Edo period. The note features handwritten inscriptions on the reverse side by Kumonmura Genroku, a clerk from Kumonmura, a village under direct shogunal control, now part of Ichinomiya Town in modern-day Hyogo Prefecture.
This historical piece of currency offers insight into the administrative and financial practices of the time, particularly in rural and small village areas. The note is a rare find that showcases both the monetary systems and the regional record-keeping methods of the Edo period.
