This is an original ukiyo-e actor print from a series by Utagawa Toyokuni III (also known as Kunisada), one of the most prominent ukiyo-e artists of the Edo period. The artwork was created in Ansei 4, February 1857, and is part of a tsuzuri-e series (a multi-panel print series). The print measures approximately 24.3 cm by 35.6 cm, though it has been trimmed slightly from its original size.
The print quality is excellent, with good color retention, but it shows signs of age, including scuffs, wrinkles, dirt, fold marks, and small wormholes. Additionally, two of the corners have minor chipping. The print has been backed for preservation. Despite these imperfections, this piece remains a valuable original artwork and not a reprint or reproduction.
This genuine Toyokuni III actor print is a collector's item for those interested in ukiyo-e, Japanese theatrical art, and Edo-period culture.
